It’s Not Really a Boxed Set

No matter how many times I click the “publish” button for a new book on Amazon, the experience still fills me with a rush of excitement and anxiety. You’d think that after four years and four novels, it would grow routine, but it never does.

Yesterday, we published the ebook version of the complete Doorway to Magic trilogy. The new ebook contains all three of the Doorway to Magic books in one volume (The Keyhole Wizard, The Door Ajar, and The Grand Door). The paperback version should be out within the next few weeks. It will also contain all three books of the trilogy in one large volume.

But it’s not really a boxed set.

Back in the 1970’s, when I bought my first paperback copy of the Lord of the Rings, the trilogy came as a true “boxed set” — the three books were partially enclosed by a decorated cardboard box that kept them together. It wasn’t until years later that I was able to purchase the entire trilogy in one large hardcover volume.

When our cover designer produced the “boxed set” image you see above, my heart beat faster as I looked at it. It reminded me of all those wonderful books of my youth.

Someday, John and I may be able to offer a true boxed set to our readers, but for now, we are happy to offer all three books in one volume: the complete Doorway to Magic trilogy, Kindle edition.

Here is the real image (and a link in case you decide to check it out):

For those of you who have never read any of the books in the trilogy, we hope you will give it a try.

Talk to you in September!

p.s. Is the correct term “boxed set” or “box set”? If I used the wrong one, feel free to correct me in the comments.
